Whoa, anachronism, man!
Heh, I was just watching the 1970s anime series Lupin III
on Cartoon Network, and it was an episode set at the Monaco Grand Prix. Being set contemporary to the show, it was 1976. Lupin was even driving the famous six-wheeled Tyrrell P34 (though of course it isn't called that in the show).
The English translation of this show is very recent; it first aired in the U.S. just last year. They apparently aren't concerned with keeping the dialogue period: Even though they're talking about all the drivers of the era, I was really shocked by the following line describing how rich one character was:
"He makes the local royal family look like the Simpsons."
The people who did the English dub also need a little education about famous racers of the past. Throughout the episode, everyone mispronounced Niki Lauda's name, saying it like "lotta" instead of "louder". It really bugged me!
