Real-life Cartoon Cars

So, tonight is our online league's annual Cartoon Cars race. I'll have to post pictures.

But in real life, a local series that once had cartoon mascots on the cars has revived that tradition. Three drivers, however, have chosen characters who aren't quite cartoons -- more like live-action cartoons:

Other cartoon mascot graphics on these real-life race cars are The Incredible Hulk, Coop (from Megas XLR), The Grim Reaper (from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy), Taz, Spongebob Squarepants, Bugs Bunny, Crash Bandicoot, and something listed as "Jester" but I don't know what that's from. I'll have to look at the car more closely.

The driver of that car won on the last time they came to our track. Here's a picture of me interviewing him for the newspaper:

The guy in charge of the series posted on their message board like I was covering them for the first time, and only because he had complained to me that they got no ink the previous week. With six divisions running, I can't cover every division every week, and I had been leding stories with these cars last year (then again, last year the paper apparently wasn't always printing my stories, so maybe those never saw the light of day). This guy getting his first win was the biggest story of the night, so of course it got the lede.

(ooh, showing off my journalistic lexicon there with "lede"!)

2006 Cartoon Cars race

Well, we had the cartoon cars race, with 18 starters.

Alas, the Animaniacs car was rammed by the South Park car at the start of lap 4:

Sending it into the Turn 2 wall:

And as you notice, the green still is on. Caution flags were turned off for this "race". I was not the only one to be victimized by the resulting boneheaded aggressiveness. That turned out to my advantage, though, as I soldiered on, without repairing any damage in the two necessary pitstops, moving up from 16th after the crash to finish 4th.

Last year I think I didn't compete in the race, or didn't write about it, but I do have the cars from it. The ones in that race (not counting ones that were used the year before, which I did write about) were Ducktales, X-men (comics), Spongebob Squarepants, The Green Lantern (comics), the Acme company, B.C., Alvin & The Chipmunks, Speed Racer, The Jetsons, Krypto the Superdog, and The Pink Panther. Sotomayor has posted pictures of a Fairly Oddparents car he made, but never has raced it.
